God is with us, ALL the time.

I sit at my desk and gaze out my window at the soft dawn light seeping through the overcast skies. My Creator sits beside me, and together we point out what we love about what He’s done. The tree closest to me is just beginning the change from emerald to amber, with a dusting of crimson sprinkled at the top. The sky holds colors in gradients, the pale blue sitting above the layers of peach and coral that rest atop the buildings opposite mine. It is a limited view, framed in my window like a living painting, and yet I can see a family of squirrels make their way from one tree to another, stepping carefully so as not to topple the others. I see birds fly overhead– some near, some far– and I remember that my Creator, who sits beside me, is also with them. His gentle fingers placed each and every feather. He gave them the ability to fly and the knowledge of where to go to find food. He watches them, always, taking great care to provide for their every need. I wonder if they are aware of Him, if there is some innate part of God’s creation that has mastered that part of faith that we as humans are so quick to forget– that God is with us all the time.

God is with us when we wake up, He is with us when we go to sleep. He’s with us when we’re at work, and He’s with us when we come home. He sees us make our dinners, He sees us scroll online, He sees us care for our pets and our friends and our family members. He sees us at our worst, overcome with sickness, or fear, or greed, and He sees us at our best, when we donate our money and time and love those around us well.

God sees the parts of us that we don’t want anyone to see. He even sees the parts of us that we are in denial about. And none of it changes how He feels about you.

God sees you, He knows you, and He loves you. All of you.

There is nothing about your life that will scare away God. There is no action too heinous, no thought too dark, no sin too large. God has a front-row seat to all of the darkness in the world. He sees the evil that’s committed all across the globe, past, present, and future. He sees it, He knows it, and His heart breaks for it, but He is bigger than all of it. He is bigger than the biggest sins combined exponentially. And, God is GOOD. Which means goodness itself is bigger than the sum of all evil. We can rest in the peace of this knowledge in the face of all adversity.

In other words, God is not scared of your faults and your flaws. He has already paid the ultimate price to cover all of your sins. When we live like our sins are too big for God to cover, we are actually denying Christ and His sacrifice. We are saying, “I know you died for me, Lord, but it wasn’t enough.”

Imagine telling the Lord His death wasn’t enough!

If any of this resonates with you, feel free to use this prayer to start a conversation with God:

“Father, thank you for being with me every moment of every day. Thank you for your creation and the part I get to play in stewarding it. Lord, I repent of the ways in which I have taken your sacrifice for granted and neglected to live as a free child of Yours. I humbly ask that you would show me the ways in which I fall short, and I ask that you would forgive me for my sins. Thank you for choosing me to be an heir to your kingdom. Please show me what it means to live like this is true. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
